Couples Therapy/Relationship Therapy

Couples therapy also referred to as relationship therapy is an opportunity to work together with a therapist to address hurt and angry feelings in a safe, impartial and empathic environment.
We know that we can be hurt in relationships but we are passionate about our proven ability to heal
During Couples Therapy you will work with your therapist to explore ways to create the relationship that you would like to have and more importantly need.
Together we will explore the reasons why you might feel at odds with each other and we will explore better ways to create the relationship that you would like to have
At Kilcoole Counselling we primarily use Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) which is a model of couples therapy based on attachment theory and research. This therapeutic style was developed by Dr Sue Johnson.
Relationship Therapy can help address some or all of the following:
- Infidelity and erosion of trust
- Openness and honesty
- Blame and Criticism
- Communication problems
- Anger and jealousy
- Lack of intimacy and sex
You will learn how to negotiate conflict within your relationship[ and to communicate in ways that all parties feel heard, respected and understood while resolving past issues that may be impacting your current relationship
It is often the case that you will both gain new insights in to your communication style and help clarify your thoughts and feelings and as a result reduce conflict in your relationship
Above all you will receive practical support to help you navigate your relationship moving forward.
